Introduced as the replacement for the 458 and named Top Gear’s 2015 ‘Supercar of the Year’, the Ferrari 488 GTB is a lauded Italian supercar, and the first mid-engined Ferrari to feature a turbocharged V8 since the iconic F40.

Smaller than the 458’s naturally aspirated unit, the 3.9-litre all-aluminium twin-turbocharged ‘F154’ engine features a dry sump and two air-to-air intercoolers, and delivers all of fits 661hp and 561lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch Getrag automatic transmission. The result is a 0-62mph sprint time of 3.0 seconds, and a top speed of 205mph.

It rides on 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, which are home to a set of improved carbon-ceramic brakes derived from the LaFerrari, which reportedly reduce stopping distances by 9% over the 458.

Featuring a double front splitter, a revised rear spoiler, a central ‘aero pillar’, a large rear diffuser and underbody vortex generators, the body of the 488 has been designed to increase downforce by 50% over the 458, while also reducing aerodynamic drag. It also features side air intakes inspired by the 308 GTB, partly to feed the turbocharger compressor intake and intercooler, and partly to increase air pressure behind the car by feeding air through the vehicle and out alongside the rear lights.
