The first 911 GT3 without the famous motorsport-derived ‘Mezger’ engine, the 991-generation car was added to the lineup at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show with a 3.8-litre direct fuel injection flat-six, producing 469hp, which drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK) double-clutch transmission with paddle shift.
Based on the unit from the Carrera S, the GT3 engine boasts forged pistons, titanium conrods and VarioCam variable valve timing. It revs to 9,000rpm, resulting in a 0-62mph sprint time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 202mph.
On the 991, electric power steering replaced the traditional hydraulic setup, and an active rear-wheel steering system was also introduced for the first time on a production Porsche. Active engine mounts and a variable rear differential lock help to improve driving dynamics, while the all-aluminium chassis can be adjusted by height, toe and camber.
On the exterior, the 991 is distinguishable by its wider rear end and large rear wing, and it rides on a set of 20-inch centre-locking forged aluminium alloy wheels.
