The 2013 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport represents the absolute peak of the Veyron’s ten-year production run, designed to push the boundaries of automotive engineering. In July 2010, driven by Bugatti “Pilote Officiel” Pierre-Henri Raphanel at the Volkswagen Group’s Ehra-Lessien test track, the Veyron Super Sport achieved an average top speed of 267mph, earning it the Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest production car.

To achieve this extraordinary pace, Bugatti heavily re-engineered the standard Veyron, incorporating a more powerful 8.0-litre W16 engine with larger turbochargers and intercoolers. This setup produced a massive 1,200hp and 1,500Nm of torque, allowing the car to rocket from 0 to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds.

To handle this immense power, the chassis was extensively revised with stiffer anti-roll bars and racing-grade dampers. A new carbon monocoque chassis was introduced, which is 10% stiffer and 25kg lighter than that of the standard car. It was further enhanced with more progressive spring and damper rates, stronger anti-roll bars, and new motorsport-derived shock absorbers for improved handling and stability. The car rides on lightweight 20-inch forged aluminium wheels supplied by OZ Racing, fitted with specially developed Michelin PAX run-flat tyres designed to withstand extreme speeds.

The revised aerodynamic package included two sleek NACA ducts in the roof, allowing for a flatter, more aerodynamic silhouette. It also featured a redesigned front apron with larger air intakes, an F1-style double diffuser, and a wide central exhaust system. At high speeds, the car hunkers down, while the rear wing adjusts its angle to provide downforce or act as a high-performance airbrake.

Inside, the cabin remains a masterclass in luxury, featuring hand-stitched leather and magnesium accents, proving that a car capable of record-breaking speeds doesn’t have to sacrifice comfort.
