Ferrari 849 Testarossa: An Icon Reborn for the Hybrid Era
Ferrari has revived one of its most famous names with the launch of the 849 Testarossa – a car that blends retro spirit with cutting-edge hybrid performance. The name Testarossa, Italian for “Red Head”, comes from the distinctive red-painted valve covers on Ferrari’s 12-cylinder engines. A signature detail found on legendary 1980s supercar right up to the current lineup of models.
Under the skin of the 849 Testarossa sits a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 paired with three electric motors, producing a combined over 1,000hp. That translates into staggering performance: 0–62mph in under 2.3 seconds and a top speed beyond 205mph. There’s also a short all-electric range of about 15 miles – handy for city centres and early morning starts.
Unlike the straked sides of the 1980s original, the new Testarossa wears a cleaner, more modern look, with dramatic intakes, a “twin-tail” rear and active aerodynamics. An optional Assetto Fiorano package adds lightweight materials, track-focused carbon fibre aero, and a newly designed livery.
Inside, Ferrari has responded to feedback by bringing back some physical controls alongside its digital displays. The cockpit is wrapped around the driver, with a raised gear selector, sculpted seats and a passenger-side display for good measure.
The coupé is expected to start around £395,000, with the Spider nearer £430,000 before options. Deliveries will begin in Europe from mid-2026, with UK customers following soon after.
The 849 Testarossa channels the spirit of Ferrari’s past but pushes firmly into the hybrid future. It’s loud, fast, and unapologetically dramatic – exactly what Ferrari fans on this side of the Channel will be hoping for. For all of our current Ferrari stock, please click here
