The Bugatti Chiron is a mid-engined two-seat hypercar, named after the Monégasque driver Louis Chiron. The main carry-over component from the Veyron is the 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine, though it is heavily updated with larger turbos and new internals. Like its predecessor, the Chiron utilises a carbon fibre body structure, independent suspension and a Haldex all-wheel drive system.

The Chiron features a fully adaptive chassis, while its carbon ceramic brakes are 20mm larger than the Veyron’s (now 420mm front and 400mm rear) and 2mm thicker. These are gripped by forged aluminium callipers (eight-piston at the front, six-piston at the rear) built to an asymmetrical design to help dissipate energy. A new design of heat shield guides air through the discs to further aid cooling.

In summer 2021, Bugatti introduced the Chiron Super Sport, a standard version of the limited-production world record-breaking 300+. The last model to use Bugatti’s groundbreaking W16 engine, it is understood that around 80 examples were built.

The Chiron Super Sport outputs the same 1,578hp and 1,180lb-ft as the 300+, though it features a slightly softer ride, additional leather interior trim, redesigned wheels and a choice of paint finishes, as opposed to the exposed carbon-fibre seen on its limited-edition stablemate.

The chassis has been redeveloped with an emphasis on high-speed stability and comfort, and includes a 7% stiffer rear axle spring rate, revised adaptive damping, and more precise steering.

The Super Sport features a distinctive ‘long-tail’ design, extended by 25cm over the standard Chiron, which helps to reduce drag, as well as air curtains and modified front wheel arches to manage airflow and downforce. Limited to 273mph, it can accelerate from 0-60mph in 2.4 seconds, and from 0-180mph in just over 12 seconds.
