In May 2021, Ferrari introduced a limited-production, track-focused variant of the 812 Superfast called the Competizione, alongside its convertible variant, the Competizione A (A for Aperta, which translates as ‘open’ in Italian). Intended as direct successors to the F12 TDF and 599 GTO, only 999 examples of the Competizione were built, alongside just 599 examples of the Aperta.
Both variants have a more powerful version of the 812’s 6.5-litre V12, which now revs to 9,500rpm and produces 819hp (an increase of 30hp over the standard 812) and 510lb-ft of torque, thanks to redesigned pistons, 40% lighter titanium conrods, a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating on the piston pins, and a rebalanced and lightened crankshaft. It also boasts new cylinder heads, a redesigned intake system and variable geometry inlet tracts.
Mated to the engine is the same seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox as seen on the 812 Superfast, recalibrated to shift 5% faster. Both models can reach 0-62mph in 2.85-seconds, before hitting a top speed of 211mph.
The Competizione and Competizione A both feature a newly introduced four-wheel steering system, version 7.0 of Ferrari’s Side Slip Control software, lightweight carbon fibre wheels and an SF90-style brake cooling system.
The aerodynamics have been overhauled, with both Competizione variants now featuring a new air intake setup, new bonnet vents, a wider F1-style ‘blown’ diffuser, a larger rear spoiler and special wheel arch louvres, which help to cool the engine. As a result, the Competizione generates up to 30% more front downforce than the Superfast.
