2022 Porsche 911 (992) Carrera Cabriolet
Description
Key Points: 20/21" 911 Turbo Wheels, Shark Blue Exterior Paint, 8 Speed PDK Gearbox.
The 992 is the eighth generation of Porsche 911, unveiled at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles in November 2018. It uses rack and pinion steering, along with MacPherson strut front suspension and rear multi-link suspension.
Exterior features include wide rear wheel arches, staggered 20 and 21-inch wheels, pop-out door handles, LED lights, a full-length rear light bar and lighter aluminium body panels. The 992 also has a new rear bumper with larger exhaust tips than its predecessor.
Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six, producing 380hp and 332lb-ft of torque, which drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. The result is a 0-62mph sprint time of 4.4 seconds, or 4.2 seconds when equipped with the Sport Chrono pack, and a top speed of 182 mph.
Standard equipment includes a 10.9-inch display with Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and navigation, and driver assistance systems including collision detection with braking intervention. A ‘Wet’ mode is also introduced on the 992, which uses acoustic sensors on the wheel wells to detect wet surfaces and adjusts the stability control and gearbox map accordingly.
The cabriolet variant features an electric folding hydraulic soft-top roof, which can be opened and closed in around 12 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph. The top is made from lightweight materials like magnesium and aluminium, and features an integrated glass rear window. It has an electrically-operated wind deflector behind the occupants' heads, as well as a roll-over protection structure that deploys automatically if the car detects an accident.
