Based on the Ferrari 348, the F355 is powered by a mid-rear mounted 3.5-litre V8 with a Bosch Motronic ECU and a five-valve cylinder head, generating a maximum power output of 375bhp. Paired with the engine is a revised open-gate manual transmission, featuring a coolant heat-exchanger to warm up the gearbox oil quickly, as well as rod-driven actuators for more precise gear changes.
It has a steel monocoque chassis and independent coil spring suspension, featuring telescopic shock absorbers with electronic control servos and anti-roll bars, as well as two-stage ‘comfort’ and ‘sport’ settings. Draped over the chassis is a Pininfarina-designed steel and aluminium body, along with a set of 18-inch wheels.
The convertible F355 Spider debuted in 1995, featuring Ferrari’s first electrically adjustable soft-top roof. Honed for 1,800 hours in Pininfarina’s wind tunnel, it can reach 60mph from a standstill in 4.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 183mph.
