Porsche Unveils the 992.2 Turbo S
Porsche has officially taken the wraps off the highly anticipated 992.2 generation 911 Turbo S, building on the success of the 992.1 whilst delivering enhanced performance, refined technology, and bold design updates. For those waiting to see how the 992.2 distinguishes itself from its predecessor, the upgrades are substantial.
Powertrain Refinements: More Than Just Numbers
While the outgoing 992 Gen 1 Turbo S was already renowned for its twin-turbocharged 3.7-litre flat-six engine and blistering acceleration, Porsche engineers have pushed the envelope even further with the Gen 2 utilising a new 3.6-litre flat-six engine derived from the 911 GTS T-Hybrid powertrain with twin turbochargers. This is now mounted 50mm lower than in the old car to aid a lower centre of gravity.
The 992.1 set the bar high with 641 horsepower, but the 992.2 and the new T-Hybrid powertrain have acheived an astonishing 701bhp and 800nm of torque.
Exterior Design: Subtle Yet Striking Updates
At first glance, the Porsche 911 Turbo S (992.2) stays true to its heritage, with a closer look revealing key differences from the 992.1 Turbo S:
- At the front, there is a redesigned bumper with larger, more aggressive air intakes.
- New sports exhaust system with a titanium rear section to aid weight as well as sound.
- Revised LED headlight clusters, now feature a slimmer and more angular design.
- Refined rear light bar and diffuser for improved aerodynamics.
- New optional carbon fibre wheels aid with further weight saving and reduce unsprung mass to acheive a faster 0-62 time.
- There are also 420mm PCCB brake discs at the front, an increase of 20mm over the 992.1.
Interior and Technology: A Step Into the Future
The 992.1 brought a tech-focused cabin with Porsche’s PCM infotainment system, but the 992.2 refines the formula:
- A fully digital driver display replaces the traditional analog tachometer, marking a major shift in cockpit design and bringing it in line with the rest of the 911 range.
- New optional folding carbon bucket seats will save weight whilst also allowing for rear passengers.
- Upgraded infotainment with expanded connectivity options, including over-the-air updates.
- Enhanced driver assistance systems for safety and convenience.
Driving Dynamics: Sharpened Precision
While the 992.1 Turbo S was lauded for its balance of comfort and aggression, the 992.2 Turbo S introduces chassis and suspension tweaks for sharper handling. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) has been recalibrated, while updated underbody aerodynamics provide 10% less drag with the aero in its most efficient position.
Why the 992.2 Stands Apart
The Porsche 911 992.2 Turbo S doesn’t reinvent the wheel—it perfects it. Where the 992.1 was a masterpiece, the 992.2 adds finesse and an unmistakable edge in both design and performance.
