The 2022 RS6 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo TFSI V8, boosted by a mild-hybrid system, which can recover up to 16 bhp. The engine switches off when you coast between 34-99mph, and there’s cylinder deactivation technology that means the RS6 can run on four of its eight cylinders when cruising or applying light throttle. The powertrain produces 592 bhp, with 590 lb-ft of torque available between 2,100rpm and 4,500rpm, and is coupled with a standard-fit eight-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel-drive. The acceleration to 62 mph takes 3.6 seconds, and as standard, top speed is limited to 155 mph. 

The Quattro system has power distribution with 40% for front and 60% for rear, though it can adjust the power distribution up to 70% for front and to 85% for the rear if needed. The adaptive air suspension system is 20mm lower than standard A6, and can lower the vehicle further 10mm during the high-speed driving (above 74mph), or raise the ride by 20mm at low speed. RS Sport Suspension with conventional springs and adaptive dampers is available as an option, or as standard with the range-topping Vorsprung trim level.

There are a number of driving modes, plus two RS-specific ones. ‘RS1’ sharpens throttle response and adds new graphics to the Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, while ‘RS2’ turns off the traction control. 

Matrix LED headlights with laser light and animation technology are standard, along with privacy glass, aluminium mirror housings and 21-inch alloy wheels, with 22-inch alloys available as an option. The top Vorsprung trim features titanium matt gloss alloy wheels and black oval tailpipes, as well as a panoramic sunroof, power closing doors, a Bang & Olufsen stereo and heated rear seats.
